RAL 7016 Today’s standard for contemporary façades.

The color that defines contemporary façades

In recent years anthracite has established itself as the dominant color for joinery in Montenegro. The reason is simple — it feels contemporary without visual noise, pairs with virtually any façade type (white, grey, stone, brick, wooden cladding) and does not lock the building into a single style. It works equally well on a minimalist villa as on a classical family house with a contemporary intervention.

At the color level, RAL 7016 (anthracite) is not black — it is a dark grey-black with depth without aggression. Compared to pure black (RAL 9005), anthracite copes better with strong sun and does not dominate when the frame shares visual space with other architectural details.

Availability — PVC vs. aluminum in anthracite

For PVC profiles, anthracite is achieved via a foil laminated onto a white base profile. The standard across quality systems is double-sided anthracite foil (outside and inside) and single-sided (anthracite outside, white inside). The latter is more cost-effective and often requested by clients who want a calm interior.

For aluminum profiles, anthracite is achieved via powder coating or, in the premium version, anodized finish. Powder coating in RAL 7016 is a standard option across most systems in the same class as other RAL colors. The anodized anthracite variant has a metallic tone that reads slightly darker and is recommended for the coast due to the salt atmosphere.

Combinations with façade and interior

01

Anthracite + white façade

A strong contrast that highlights the window lines — the most popular combination for modern houses and residential complexes.

02

Anthracite + grey façade

A more subtle choice with a unified calm appearance — frequent on minimalist projects and villas.

03

Anthracite + natural stone

Excellent for buildings with stone or brick façades — the anthracite profile does not compete with the texture.

04

Anthracite outside, white inside

A dual-color choice that delivers a modern façade and a calm interior — popular in apartments with light interiors.

05

Anthracite + wood-decor insert

A warm accent in a contemporary frame — a two-tone panel field on doors, in wood decor.

06

Anthracite + brass / gold hardware

A premium pairing for entry doors — anthracite profile with gold handles, cylinder and knocker.

Anthracite in Podgorica and on the coast

In Podgorica, anthracite has become almost standard for new family houses and contemporary residential complexes. Combined with white façades and modern details (flat roof, large panoramic openings), it defines part of the city’s contemporary architectural expression. For apartments in high-rises being renovated, anthracite often works as a key aesthetic shift.

Along the coast — Budva, Tivat, Herceg Novi, Bar — anthracite is a frequent choice for contemporary villas and resort complexes. For buildings in direct exposure to salt atmosphere we recommend anodized aluminum in anthracite as the most durable solution. For buildings further inland, powder-coated and PVC-foil variants perform well.

Protecting the finish — what to ask

When choosing anthracite joinery, it matters what quality of foil (for PVC) or powder coat (for aluminum) is used. Lower-grade variants may fade sooner in direct sun and show uneven patches. Quality foils and powder coats retain color for 15–20+ years under normal conditions. When ordering, require that the specification lists the specific foil model or RAL class of powder coating.

Dual-color anthracite windows

The dual-color version (anthracite outside, white or grey inside) delivers a modern façade with a calm interior. For apartments with light wall and floor colors, this is often the optimal choice — the façade reads contemporary and signals a quality building, while the interior stays light and feels more spacious. Cost premium is about 10–15% over the single-color version, which with quality systems is acceptable for the value it adds.

FAQ — anthracite joinery

  1. 01 What is anthracite for joinery?

Anthracite is a dark grey-black color standardized as RAL 7016. It is currently the most popular color for PVC and aluminum joinery in Montenegro and the region, particularly for contemporary buildings, new builds and renovations seeking a modern look.

  2. 02 Is anthracite more expensive than white?

Anthracite foil for PVC profiles adds roughly 15–30% to the base white profile price, depending on the system. Aluminum profiles with powder coating in RAL 7016 are generally in the same class as other standard RAL colors — not specifically more expensive than other dark variants.

  3. 03 Does anthracite fade in the sun?

Quality anthracite foils for PVC and powder-coated aluminum profiles retain color for 15–20+ years under normal conditions. Lower-grade variants may show wear sooner, especially on south-facing façades and along the coast. For buildings in direct exposure we recommend anodized aluminum variants or premium powder coats with UV protection.

  4. 04 Can I get a dual-color anthracite window?

Yes. A dual-color version means anthracite outside and white (or another light color) inside. This is a frequent choice for apartments with light interiors — the façade feels modern while the inside stays bright and calm. Cost is about 10–15% above the single-color anthracite variant.

  5. 05 What handle color goes with anthracite?

Standard is anthracite or black hardware matched to the profile. For entry doors, brass (gold) handles are also an option for a premium effect, inox for a modern look, or graphite for a subtler tone. We recommend choosing before ordering, as later changes may be limited.

  6. 06 Is anthracite suitable for the coast?

Yes, but for buildings in direct exposure to the salt atmosphere we recommend aluminum profiles with anodized finish or PVC with high-quality UV-resistant foil. Quality powder-coated profiles work well along the coast; economy variants may fade sooner.

  7. 07 Can I have anthracite roller shutters with an anthracite window?

Yes — anthracite roller shutters with an anthracite window deliver a fully consistent look. Aluminum roller shutters with powder coating in anthracite are a standard option. Combination with insulated slats (foam-filled interior) is almost the rule for modern houses.

  8. 08 What is the difference between anthracite and black joinery?

Black joinery is pure black (RAL 9005), while anthracite is dark grey (RAL 7016). Anthracite feels less aggressive, pairs more easily with different façades and is considered a more contemporary choice. Black is chosen when a strong visual statement is wanted, particularly in industrial-loft style.
